About Mikel Weisser
A former congressional candidate, DNC delegate, schoolteacher, touring poet and political writer, Mikel Weisser helped draft both Arizona’s 2016 and 2020 cannabis legalization initiatives. Since 2015 Mikel Weisser has been the state director of NORML’s Arizona chapter and a consultant to AZ’s cannabis industry. In addition to working as head staff writer for Cannabiz News and Arizona Cannabis Monthly, his cannabis reporting has been published in Leafly and Freedom Leaf. Weisser has worked on legislation since 2013 and helped shape both the AZ hemp and MMJ testing programs. An avid dog-lover and musician, Weisser has a Masters in English from the University of Illinois at Springfield and a Masters in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University. Weisser currently serves as the rural field director for the Smart and Safe Arizona campaign to legalize cannabis in AZ for the 2020 election. He lives with his wife in So-Hi, AZ.
